Which Cases Are Most Relevant for Referral?

We currently focus the English referral section particularly on advanced interventional procedures and selected high-impact disease areas.

Information Helpful for Initial Case Review

A structured first review is easier when echocardiographic findings and key clinical information are available. Depending on the case, the following information is particularly useful:

Please include when available:

Signalment, body weight and breed

Clinical stage and main symptoms

Current medication

Recent echocardiographic findings

DICOM loops or a secure download link

Relevant thoracic radiographs, ECG or Holter data if available

DICOM Submission and Pre-Assessment

If a local cardiologist has already performed echocardiography with appropriate views, DICOM loops can be sent to us before the patient travels to Munich.

This is particularly helpful for patients being considered for mitral valve repair (TEER), because detailed anatomical assessment is important before a procedure can be planned.

For TEER referrals, please also use our dedicated page with procedural information and required imaging views: Mitral Valve Repair (TEER).

What Happens After Initial Review?

After reviewing the available clinical information and imaging, we can usually advise whether:

Final procedural eligibility, particularly for TEER, is always determined only after detailed in-person assessment and intraoperative imaging where appropriate.

Why Refer to LMU Munich?

Advanced interventional cardiology in veterinary patients requires a highly specialized setting.

At LMU Munich, referrals are evaluated within a collaborative structure involving cardiology, surgery, anaesthesia and intensive care. This is particularly important for complex mitral valve repair and other advanced catheter-based procedures.

Our English referral pages are designed to help both veterinarians and international owners find the most relevant information quickly and to facilitate structured case discussion.
